Well duh, of course the surgeon has to request an anesthetic, ever hear of anyone going in for therapeutic anesthesia? Just as a surgeon has to be consulted. They just do not walk into a hospital and say that one I want to cut that one. As for the anesthetic it is wholly my choice. If a surgeon has a preference they may state it but it is my choice in the end. My decision is driven by patient condition and slandered of care. If you drive your anesthesia based on a surgeons desire you are screaming to get your ass handed to you in a court of law at some point, for the responsibility is YOURS, a court will not care what the surgeon "likes". You do not get them to go along, you do not have ask it is your choice and your responsibility. If you cannot handle that or understand that you do not need to be practicing as a CRNA.
