I would definitely say that pay is too low except for one reason. Doing preoperative assessments in many cases is just filling in boxes on the form and you could train anyone to do it. I think this place is looking for someone who can actually assess the patient in relationship to the upcoming anesthetic. And for that, it has to be someone who knows anesthesia. Where the low pay comes in is there is little risk in doing the assessment. Patients usually do not crump on you when you are doing it. So less risk, less pay. The positive side of the ad is there is the potential of getting into the operating room. If you prove yourself by doing outstanding preoperative assessments, they may just want to see what else you can do for them. It might be worthwhile to give it a try as they said they would consider a six month arrangement also. You could at least negotiate with them about that.
