Hey there,The Chemistry 1 lecture course (one semester) is valued at 3 hours. In American schools, the terms "hours" and "credits" are used almost interchangeably. So, the Chemistry 1 lecture course, which counts as 3 hours, is also 3 credits. I.E., if I take a 3-hour History course, it is also worth 3 credits.
The Chemistry 1 lab course, however, only counts for 1 hour -- or 1 credit. So, altogether, Chemistry 1 (lecture and lab) is 4 credits (because 3 + 1 = 4).
Also, Chemistry 1 lecture and lab would be considered as one semester of chemistry (you do have to take both of them, unless otherwise stated). So, if a school's website states, "2 semesters of General Chemistry," then that means General Chemistry 1 and 2, both with labs. These courses would equal 8 hours/credits (3 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 8).
A "year" is considered as two semesters, which would mean General Chemistry 1 and 2 with labs (I think you get the idea...).
