You need to talk with an individual at one of the programs to get their take on this. I'm sure this is not the first time this question has come up.
NeuroQueen I think is incorrect - you can be denied a patient-care position if you present a risk to the patient. In this case, the rights of the patient to a competent and healthy provider far outweigh your rights to work in a specific profession. Many people that are HIV positive can no longer be involved in direct patient care either.
