An AA asked in another string about locums work which brought to mind something that you may want to push for in your AA practice laws.

You want to put in an INTERSTATE AA PRACTICE COMPACT. That way if you have a license in your home state, and if it is in the Compact, you can practice in any state within the Compact without having to get licenses in the other states. It would work like a drivers license.

Nurses started working on an Interstate Nursing Compact with Utah the first state signing on in 1998. Only 22 states so far have signed onto the agreement. The CRNAs licenses are tied to the RN licenses so what the RN board decides to do, the CRNAs must accept.

If AAs get this in place NOW for the states they already are licensed in and continue to do it in the new states that pass AA practice laws, you would be able to say that YOU can practice in any licensed state with ONE license. The CRNAs could not say the same until ALL the states sign the Interstate Nursing Compact, which is not going to happen. Some states make money off their RN licensing function, so are not going to give up the money.

The AAs could get the jump on the CRNAs and be ahead of them in this area instead of trying to catch up.

Now I wait for the rocks and sticks to come flying my way.
