I assume you all want to be recognized as professional providers of anesthesia care and not just a "pair of hands" or a technician. As such, when a state is working on AA practice laws, you AAs need to be there defining the scope of practice. Do not let anyone else do this for you. Not the CRNAS, not the Anesthesiologists.
If you do, you will find that the practice law is phrased in such a manner that you will not be treated as professionals. If the CRNAs get to define it, you will be almost worthless as it will read the anesthesiologist must be in the room at all times. Or it will say you can not do any invasive procedures. (Such as IVs, intubate or arterial lines.) If the Anesthesiologists define it, you will be totally under their control in all situations, in all regards, in the operating room and outside it. It could even be phrased that you can only work for and be paid by the Anesthesiologist and not the hospital.
As a professional and a licensed provider, you need the ability to act as such and have some control over how you do things. You guys are in the best position to know what will work and what will not so you are the ones who need to define the scope of practice. If you even get a hint that a state is talking about AAs, you need to get in there and lead the way.
It is not just about money, it is about being a professional provider of care.
