Honestly, the programs accept people of varying backgrounds and your gpa might be an issue. But if other aspects of your application are strong, that may be overlooked. You said that your GPA was rising from that 2.9. Is it over a 3.1? Definitely dedicate time and score well over the average stats on the GRE and MCAT! That will help tremendously. And get as much experience/exposure as you can. My biggest advice is, you have to just apply and see how it goes. Because if you don't even apply, you are cutting yourself short and its a guaranteed decline. Good luck!
