Secondly, I don't normally respond to the nasty, hurtful, and unnecessary comments left on here by people who know nothing about us or what our background is, but I felt like some of these comments deserve a response.
J, I am NOT a kiddo and did NOT attend any of the colleges you referenced. For my first undergrad and masters degree I attended a great university and graduated with honors from both. I have had AA's that graduated from Emory look at my app as well as MD's that graduated from Emory and they all think my app looks great!
For the comment made by Aas, it was also uncalled for. How do you know anything about our life experiences, LOR, and what unique features we each have? I can only speak for myself, but I have more than enough "life experiences" ! For starters I have had a career for the past 13 + years, married with a child, been around healthcare my ENTIRE life, volunteer at numerous places, etc. I had 10 amazing LOR from a wide range of individuals including AA's, MD's, professors, department chairs, Emory alum, PA's, etc. My essay was pretty awesome, if I do say so myself! I shadowed for 70+ hours in an OR. I'm not stuck on numbers, but I do have to disagree with you and say I think Emory is. The only detractor that I, or anyone else who has reviewed my app for me, can see is my GRE score. My pre-req GPA is a solid 3.8(only 1 B to date and I'm taking my last two classes now). I don't think students posting on here about concerns with their numbers, GRE, GPA, whatever is considered whining.
I take it to he caring. Caring about their futures and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. I think this is why you all will make AMAZING AA's and I hope I get the chance to work with some of you one day.
Last time I checked this was a forum to discuss ANYTHING dealing with the AA profession, so if someone does not like or agree with what is said by someone please try to find a kinder more professional way to respond.
In other words please leave your negative, rude comments and responses off of here!!!
Good luck to you all in your next cycle! I know this "kiddo" will be applying again
