Because again, they want the whole package. Not just a math whiz. However, there must be some indication for above average math skills. Do you have any idea how much math is involved in anesthesia? You need to demonstrate math skills without a calc every day, whether it is drug concentrations/dilutions/body weight/Fluid loss etc. There is no hiding that this profession is heavy on math - and it's so important to be quick and accurate. A low math score is very telling, and great vocabulary in the OR will not make up for a drug dose error. That is where the math bias probably comes from. |
