Re: Working while in school
You apparently didn't grasp the point of my post at all. And fortunately, I'll never be in your OR as a student as I've already graduated. I did put in a ton of time studying and I was at the very top of my class academically and clinically. I'll repeat myself and say that no, you don't HAVE to bust your ass just to make it through the program. I could have coasted through with passing grades and studied less than 1/2 as much as I did but that wasn't what I chose to do. What my post was all about was that NO ONE can learn everything there is to know about anesthesia in just 2 1/2 years, even if they studied 24/7 throughout the program. Therefore, if you simply coast through and are able to work part time on the side, you aren't giving it your all to become the best you can be. That's just simple fact. I don't care how smart you are. If you wanna be an average AA and just make it through school, you can probably do that if you're smart enough. But if you want to be a stud AA, be respected by your attendings and surgeons, etc, and be someone who helps to move the profession forward as a whole, you should devote the 2+ years to learning EVERYTHING you can in order to get as close to that goal as possible. You understand my point yet? Or are you gonna make another stupid post that says its possible to work during school?
