Re: Contacted Anesthesia Groups -> No Jobs
I'm in the same position as you, getting ready to apply to AA school in just a few weeks. There are similar issues occurring throughout Alabama and Georgia regarding hiring trends being unfavorable for AA's. There is an anesthesia group called AmSol which is out of Birmingham that has bought-out the anesthesia contracts at a number of hospitals throughout Alabama and Georgia, and one of the executives in the company, a CRNA whose name starts with an "L," harbors strong anti-AA sentiments. Subsequently, the hospitals they now hold anesthesia contracts with have adopted strict policies barring the hiring of AA's. This has resulted in a number of cities throughout Georgia that were formerly known for being "AA-friendly" now being literally off-limits to AA's. Of course, some insist that this is a good thing for the profession because it will force AA's to work up north now that the southeastern job market is rapidly becoming closed to AA's. But you didn't hear any of this from me...
