So, with child spanking, I am against and I never explicitly describe it in my writing. That said, the particular situations and upbringings of some of my characters makes it... possibly more unbelievable to pretend they have never been exposed to spanking as children, and I don't pretend they haven't, and I'm aware it affects them as a person.

eg. Rose and/or Lucy have mentioned in my My Name is Anna series that they grew up with spanking and therefore note that it's something that they already were familiar with and had experience of in some way before they first discussed it in terms of each other (compared to Kate and Anna, who didn't/weren't).

There is also a scene where Rose tells Anna she was punished with castor oil as a child (however, she calls her grandmother a mean woman and states she disapproves of this punishment in general, and especially for children).

So, yeah, I don't not-reference it at all, and I think in some of my settings, it would be difficult to try and pretend it doesn't/didn't exist, but I definitely do not describe it explicitly in scenes.
