speaking of hats, Im in agreement about wearing them. We had a great looking uniform especially with the hat on. I was a Sergeant at northern and doing roll call one morning I read an interoffice that came out, Im not sure who it came from, but is stated anyone caught outside the car without their hat, their SUPERVISOR would lose 3 vacation days. I told them I better not lose three days because of someone not wearing his hat. An hour later I was riding past a 10-50 on Ritchie highway and one of me guys ( a country type fellow) was outside directing traffic WITHOUT his hat on (and only an hour or so earlier I had read that interoffice to him). I got out of the car, approached him and told him to "put the god damned hat on". He went to the car, got his hat and put it on. It actually looked like he had balled it up, stomped on it, and god knows what else. It was terrible looking. So much so that I actually told him "never mind, put the hat back in your car, Ill take the 3 days"! It looked that bad!
