Neptun addicts might like to follow up David's suggestion and start to make Breconshire from Neptun 1027, Hansa (ex-Glengarry) taken over by Germany while building in Denmark in 1940. She had been intended as HSK 5 but was used as a Sperrbrecher and torpedo target for training U-boat crew and she survived the war to join her remaining sister-ships with her old name. It would be a major re-build to a model of Breconshire but it is in 1/1250 scale to start with.
In 1/1200 scale, John Laing (John's Model Shipyard) made a 3D-printed kit of Glenorchy supplied with and without defensive armament. This model was printed in PLM resin with external supports which John would cut away before sending the models out to customers. The Len Jordan model of these ships is M02 and Mike Costello lists the 4 Glen Line ships and Breconshire that were converted to Military Logistic ships and LSI's and it seems that these were possibilities that were converted by "Pedestal Models" and subsequently "Santa Rosa Models". Kelvin Holmes has recently produced a downloadable summary of of these manufacturers which might be of interest.
S he was onenof a large class of ships , INCLUDING ONE USED BY THE KM in WW2, i seem to remember had an even better camo.
Does anyone know why there is no model of Breconshire, despite important role she played in bringing supplies to Malta?
