There is a full port side view of her in the Bagnasco and Brescia book on Italian Navy Camouflage1940-45. Page 175. In b/w. but clearest I can find. Seems to me that if semi-permanently moored with starboard side to shore that only port side camouflage needed. Talk of converting her to a carrier.
archivio luce HAS A SHORT VIDEO OF VERY SHORT CLIPS OF HER AS SALVAGED? not sure if it will help as could be burn or burn and "camo"
also on internet found a stern pic of the "camo" which appears to show it wrapping round stern and fore funnel!
REX at the same time was original paint on land side, not sure about colours of other side which is the camo on the Comte???
This Italian liner was moored up along the shore pending a decision on its future before being sunk.
I would like to paint up my Mercator casting to represent her at this time. Marco Ghiglino’s excellent book on Italian camouflage in WW2 has a photo of her port side painted with hills, trees and houses in an attempt to blend in with the shore. A similar photo can be found on the web.
Also, on the web, is a photo of her with a dark on light grey broad wavy band on her port side.
Can anyone else help me to determine if the scheme were applied simply to the port side because of the way she was moored?
Any help on this and possible colours used will be gratefully received.
