I have used the hairdryer as suggested but I know that each of you have unpacked your model only to find that there were some bent masts or cross trees or those tiny little gun barrels on the secondary batteries. When straightening, they tend to snap right off. I strongly recommend that you warm the bent piece with a hair dryer for 30 to 45 seconds and then using a thin, straight object (I prefer single edge razor blades) to raise or lower the entire piece. By distributing the bending force along the entire piece instead of concentrating it with a pair of tweezers, you are far less likely to cause it to "work" the piece and making it fracture.

Once it's off, a little acetone on a q-tip will solve the stickiness problem

I've used the hairdryer method in past, the only issue has been residual glue on the base of the ship. This has to be removed, which can be time consuming, because the ship will stick to whatever the ship is placed on.
