Re: Preventative Pill

In 2004 after chemo and during rads, the onc put me on Tamoxifen. After several months on Tamoxifen, scientists determined that the AI Arimidex was more effective for many estrogen-positive patients. That's me - estrogen-positive. The onc switched me to Arimidex and said 5 yrs would be good. But I had side effects that did not diminish with time (muscle and bone pain), so the onc put me back on Tamoxifen. Then after several months, the onc suggested taking Aromasin (a sister drug of Arimidex)--just as effective and possibly less side-effects. So I took that for the rest of the 5 years and did not have severe side-effects. Though I did have some soreness, it wasn't significant enough to stop taking Aromasin. Drugs and time periods may have changed since then, so you need to ask your onc about what is the best drug now and what is best for you personally. Best wishes.
