I get what you’re saying, quality rather than quantity would be my route too. But unfortunately it’s not as simple as that, and next season the money from the Premier League stops.
We’ve got a dozen players Mellon won’t even consider which probably equates to at least £12k a week, that’s £600k a year down the swanny!!
However, If you’re spending £100k on a player the wages would have to mirror that….at say £3k a week is £750k in the first year! Thats a hell of a lot of the budget to spend on 3 players!!
The truth is these players of ours can’t be as bad as they are showing surely, do you not think there is more to it than that?
I think Unsworth & Co were just poor coaches at this level but although Mellon has been there and done it, so far he hasn’t improved us in that respect. Conlon was captain at Port Vale, Lundstram was player of the season at Alty, Shelton was highly rated by Pools fans and they were gutted he’d left, yet they’ve been collective failures, even Hobson who was a top player for Southend and started really well here IMO has regressed somewhat.
Something definitely doesn’t add up for me!!
