Mose' interesting: Jim Moses' INTREPID, In Progress

Editor's Note: Is there any ship modeler who isn't building the Revell 1/540 angled-deck (SCB-125) Essex-class kit? It seems not! (And, even if there was one, Matty's Models is of the opinion that there shouldn't be! )
So, kick back and enjoy this thread - including all your responses, appended below - as we follow the progress of Jim Moses on his very promising-looking build:
"...(I am building) the Revell (1/540 Essex-class kit), with major mods: stbd side elevator moved aft, centerline elevator lengthened, lots of rework on stbd side sponsons, reshaped bow knuckle, etc., (to depict Intrepid) circa 1972. That's the good news. The bad news is that...(much of the build) is still a real work in progress - I haven't even primed the hull or flight deck to see how all that surgery looks. The rest of the bad news is that I've been at this one for ten years (glaciers move more quickly). I tend to work on something til I run aground on a problem area, then shift to another project...
(And,) as an old DD First LT, I'm picky about (the) details!...I do appeciate the kind words, though, as I only see the flaws..."
...there's still a long way to go there - darken the windows, paint & mount the mast & the rest of the antennae, etc...(And I am currently challenged by) the unrep hose that hangs off the stbd side of the island...GMM('s Loren Perry) has a nice example in his 1/700 modernized IOWA p/e, but not in the Revell carrier set that seems to have everything else...
...(So) I...can't guarantee I'll have anything better any time soon...(but the first thing will be) getting the island "ready for prime time,...(and) you're welcome to post (whatever I can send, when available)...
Welcome Aboard, Jim! I'm sure that, like many of us, you are your own worst critic - because your Intrepid island looks gorgeous (particularly considering the starting-point, with that kit)!
And you are also not alone in completing (mostly) the island ahead of everything else - take a look at Sean McDermott's Shangri-La island; from yet another build of this classic mold, here at ModelFleet.
And here is where you're going to get assistance, as well as encouragement - to wit, this old Board Header:

Click on this banner to reveal a really close look at the starboard-side of USS Yorktown's SCB-125 island, including the UNREP refuelling area. Although the hoses are gone now (up there at Patriot's Point), note the hose boom clearly remains, and I believe the hoses emerged stright out of the island, through the small, round scuttle(s), also visible right there, behind the boom. (On earlier fits, the hoses emerged from the hull-side (not shown), below the island).
As for the specific rigging and way the hoses were draped, I'm sure we can also find many good historical pics, as well - but I daresay that the eye (loop) on the short arm extending from the hull side, straight down from the tip of the boom, played a role in the hose deployment, as well.
So, here's already a start at encouraging you - and I daresay you came to the right place, Jim. Great to have you aboard, buddy!
