Editor's Note: Is there any ship modeler who isn't building the Revell 1/540 angled-deck (SCB-125) Essex-class kit? It seems not! (And, even if there was one, Matty's Models is of the opinion that there shouldn't be!
)
So, kick back and enjoy this thread - including all your responses, appended below - as we follow the progress of Jim Moses on his very promising-looking build:
"...(I am building) the Revell (1/540 Essex-class kit), with major mods: stbd side elevator moved aft, centerline elevator lengthened, lots of rework on stbd side sponsons, reshaped bow knuckle, etc., (to depict Intrepid) circa 1972. That's the good news. The bad news is that...(much of the build) is still a real work in progress - I haven't even primed the hull or flight deck to see how all that surgery looks. The rest of the bad news is that I've been at this one for ten years (glaciers move more quickly). I tend to work on something til I run aground on a problem area, then shift to another project...
(And,) as an old DD First LT, I'm picky about (the) details!...I do appeciate the kind words, though, as I only see the flaws..."
