- Re: The case against signing players in Jan
A) GS has stated numerous times that teams that are active in January only average about 2 or 3 points more than inactive teams.
I think that perhaps the club has been fixated on this, and weren’t willing to spend a little bit more than normal, because they didn’t see ‘value’ in it. Of course I’m not advocating we spent another 20 million, but those 2 or 3 points could make all the difference between obtaining another 100 million + in the summer.
Alternatively, we could have used the foreign loan market.
B) i agree that free agents aren’t appropriate at this stage of the season, as it would likely take them 2-3 months to get up to match fitness, at which point, the season is pretty much done.
C) Alfie (when on form) is a real asset at LWB, and we would lose a significant portion of our creativity if he was to fill in at LCB for a period. I’d like to see Hashi in his preferred RWB position, as for all Kabores efforts second half, he is a defensive liability.
My point about analytical thinking, is that many jump down on people that have a different opinion to them, particularly if it’s questioning a decision taken by the club, and won’t see other sides of the argument. It’s not a personal attack on anyone at the club, I it’s more out of sense of frustration, as we appeared very close to achieving our objective after the Brighton game.
Not addressing the long term absentees of key players like Nakamba and Lockyer was a big mistake imo.
