His family were decent people and railway employees of the LNER for 4 generations up to my Dad's generation. I have railway records going back to my great-great-grandfather a signalman.
My own Dad started on the railway at 14 as a 'chain-boy' in the Good's Yard - He moved freight waggons about the sidings using a cart-horse, his father was a railway accounts clerk, his brothers an engine driver and in the Goods Yard, his grandfather a railway carter - a bit like the Liverpool Docks in the old days when you followed your father onto the docks.
The only recorded link I have of my g-g-uncle with his family in later life is my g-grandfather (his brother) who is down as his NOK on his army attestation papers.
It will ever remain a mystery and the only family members who would have known are long gone
