L.C. Smith Tool

Will anyone have any L C Smith cocking tools for sale at the Vintagers this Sept? I’d like to pick up an extra one. Thanks for any info.

John, I'm going to guess that Frank will have the LC Smith display there. He always has cocking tools, hammer gun firing pins and snap caps available

Yes, LCSCA will have cocking tools at the Vintage Gunners in Sept.

John, the cocking tool was included in the box of the early Hunter Arms guns, but it did not have the
hole to put through the cocking rods to cock the gun. You used the tool when the locks were off to cock the hammer and also to compress the mainspring to remove it.
A neat tool to have on display with your gun but as for using it no, I use a 4" adjustable.

Your correct. I do use them though to cock the locks when they are off the receiver or when reassembling the locks after cleaning disassembled components or reassembly after case coloring etc.

I've not seen the cocking tool found in the original shipping crates of early Hunter Arms guns; but based on David's above description of that tool, I believe the photo I can't post thru my computer may be of one of those tools. This cocking tool was gifted by a member from AZ and is alleged to have belonged to an original Hunter employee as both sides are stamped "G.WAUGH". This is a nicely made tool and the top and bottom sides are knurled to insure a good grip. Although it lacks the hole to accommodate the ends of the cocking rods for cocking the hammers with locks on the gun, the "V" notch on the back side of the end of the tool with the hooks works well for that purpose.
