Danny,I will take a stab at your question. This is nothing more than my opinion.I would not shoot slugs in a Smith.I know some have done this in the past.At some point someone had a detailed picture of what a standard single barrel gun looks like when a slug passes thru it.The barrel stretches a good bit more than a charge of shot would stretch it.You have old solder that holds the barrel ridgid to the rib.My Father told me that he shot the rib loose during WW2 off a nice side by side doing this kind of stuff and these guns were 70 years newer at that time.I do know that at 100 yds a double gun will shoot several feet to one side. The barrels of a side by side are set up to cross at about 40yds.I remember shooting a few slugs thru a double gun at a 100yds and could not even hit a large target. The right barrel shot several feet to the left and the left shot way to the right. If you were very close to your target, you may have a chance to hit something.Considering how much it cost to have a rib put back on a gun you have to ask yourself the question,do you want to take a chance? I also know that slugs have a heavy recoil from shooting them in other single barrel shotguns. This alone may be enough to shatter a good Smith stock beyond repair.Let us know how you make out.Charlie.
