David...you are right, there were no springs to retract the firing pins but it seems like a logical fix. That said, I have an idea that the pins may extend just far enough out of the face of the breech that the indent on the extractor is catching them rather than smoothly pushing them back into the breech. I assumed that the depressions in the extractor were part of the design but they seem pretty deep, like they have been worn in over time. I may try to shorten the pin length very slightly to see if that helps. I have removed the pins and cleaned out the pin cavity as well as the bushings and they were both pretty dirty.
