Greg, great news about the Grouse hunting and lucky you if the gun was closeted for 50 years....interesting if you could pattern the gun before the cone lengthening and the after. Felt recoil might be a bit different , not sure I could tell any difference. One small thing on preserving the wood....be sure the screws are tight. Amazing how easy they loosen up and increase the potential for damage when shot. Good luck. Oh and one way of reducing the wear on your gun, especially shooting clays......own a dozen or so and rotate them. This makes perfect sense to most L.C. Smith owners.
