    Paul, Standard barrel lengths were never in fractions of inches. Thirty inch barrels would either be cylinder or might have a couple of thousandths constriction if cut down to 26 1/2. That would be about where the chokes would begin.
    Bone charcoal colors have identifiable characteristics like ghost rings around the pins which make them hard to mistake for other methods of case-coloring. Compare your gun to some high condition specimens on ebay and you should be able to tell. If you suspect they were torched on they probably were.
