Unusual LC Hammer Gun Archived Message

Got a call from a gentleman yesterday who had acquired a post 1918 F Grade hammer with an original set of Chain Damascus barrels; and the serial number of which dated the gun to 1937. Saw pictures of the gun today and the gun is exactly what was described; a very plain F Grade hammer with very nice Chain Damascus barrels, and a ship date several years after the hammer gun and Damascus barrels were no longer cataloged. So, as things are a bit slow on the forum, I thought this might be an interesting discussion topic. I haven't touched base with Jim to see what the shipping record reveals; but as all serial numbers and worn finishes match, I think it original. Therefore, my speculation is that this gun was the result 1)a special order, 2)a gun made up by an employee, or 3) an attempt by
Hunter (given that the Great Depression was still underway in 1937) to utilize to the greatest degree possible all dated supplies and inventories they may have had on hand. Whatever the reason, this will make a great conversation piece at a gun show; what say you?
