If I am reading this correctly and the springs, L.C. Smith's both hammer and hammerless did not have firing pin return springs. Most except a few hammer guns that I have seen, the ejector has a beveled half moon shape machined into the bottom that lines up with the firing pins. As the gun closes, the ejector stem slides over the firing pin/s and retracks them.
I shoot mainly hammer guns and it is just a habit when closing the gun to have it slightly muzzle high and this causes the firing pins to retract.
