If metal surfaces only have a skim of brown surface rust, such rust can be easily removed with fine 0000 steel wool and a good grade of gun oil; and doing so will not hurt whatever has survived of the original metal finishes. If those metal surfaces are pitted, you'd be best served by consulting a good gunsmith.
