I have a 16 gauge Field, that is my everyday shooter. I have had her restocked and rust blued. The bluing is wearing faster than I would like, and I read in the Houchins book that Field Grades' barrels wear finished with a lacquer to protect the bluing.
I have googled lacquering barrels but haven't found a whole lot of info about this. Is this something I could do to preserve the bluing? If so any recommendations on what lacquer to use?
I did read something online about waxing gunmetal with Renaissance wax to protect bluing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
