    Post pics and we can be sure; but all post-13 Smith guns feature the assigned grade in a roll-stamp atop the right barrel (Field, Ideal, Trap, etc.); so without that roll stamp, the gun is certainly a pre-13 Grade O gun. I don't have my Brophy (or any other Smith books) here at office, but some of the early serial number record blocks are missing; and if memory serves me correctly, we don't have the shipping record books for early Smith guns above serial number 44,999 (we're missing some in the 9XXXX range also). Given that fact and the fact that serial number blocks were re-used, little wonder why folks become so confused with attempts to decipher Smith serial numbers.
