A new J spring would probably fix the problem, but I don't know of a source. I have had good luck by building up the tip of the spring by welding using the TIG process. The J spring should be clamped between two pieces of copper or aluminum to act as a heat sink, and a small drop of weld added to the tp of the spring. The drop of weld is then dressed down with a file to adjust the tension. Usually only a few thousandths of increase in the length of the spring will make it tight again.
