Good news Mike! I wouldn't change a thing. That spring is designed to hold the fore-end in place with the barrels installed on the gun/receiver. If you modify the spring, it will effect the way it works in holding the assembled gun together. Does the fore-end snap tightly in place when the gun is fully assembled? Are you able to remove the fore-end from the assembled gun with normal pressure and not using a wooden wedge? If you answered yes to both questions, then I'd leave the spring as is.
Regarding the spring seat point on the fore-end lug, it could have left the factory both ways. J-Springs with flat ends usually nested against a flat smooth lug. J-springs with a pointed end usually seat in a small indentation in the fore-end lug. If the numbers all match between your receiver, barrels, and fore-end, then you likely have the correct J-spring to fore-end lug interface.
