I think something about the status of the gun as properly reported stolen property and also whether or not insurance was filed/paid is a good idea. However small the percentages, it might be worthwhile to consider: 1) If an insurance claim was paid, then the individual no longer has a legal claim to the firearm. 2) Perhaps one of our attorneys might chime in regarding any potential problem related to telling the World that someone else is holding another person's "stolen" property if no report were ever filed with the proper authorities. 3) Allowing old reports in could lead to confusion even though the item might have been recovered by police/insurer, auctioned off after being recovered, etc. i.e. - the gun is no longer considered loot by the police. Insurers are not always under obligation to notify the previous owner in the event an item is recovered after a claim has been paid.
