Thanks to a couple of you and the table of serial numbers, I know that my new L.C. Smith double-barrel hammered gun was made in 1912. I doubt very much that it has been fired since the early 1940s, and don't know when it might have been cleaned, although it doesn't look rusty.
What ammunition can be used in a gun this old, if any?
Does anyone know of a gunsmith near Merritt Island, Florida who could tell me whether it's safe to fire at all?
