Dear Jim. I just received in today's mail my Records Search Certificate No. 01708 for my 1907 12 gauge Grade 2E-Thank you, I am new to all this, and am very impressed with the knowledge and comradeship from the members and their posts. I will soon be sending in another application form and a $40 remittance for the older 2E sn. 1074 I bought yesterday from a Gander Mountain retail outlet store. As it may have been made in 1895-but has a raised ventilated rib, I hope the research will show that this fine shotgun was returned to Hunter Arms for that rib-sometime after 1917 I assume. It has 32" Nitro Proof barrels choked Full and Ex. Full and 3" chambers- I plan to use it tomorrow pass shooting on mallards and possibly Canadas, with the std. 2 and 3/4" Hevi-Shot loads. It fits me perfectly-balances, the ejectors are in time, all mechanics are there, and no splits around the sidelocks- A real fine older Smith shotgun, and one to be treasured and used as well.
