Bore dimensions of a Long Range Gun Archived Message

Last evening while addressing some issues with my 3" Long Range Gun (Ideal Gr., 1924, #RE742xx), Bill Winter and I made an interesting discovery. We found that it has a standard bore of .729" for a short distance past the forcing cone, out to about 12" from the standing breech. At that point the bore constricts to about .695" and continues that way on out through. We are surmising that it has a jug-choke system cut into it, as the chokes are .695" too, and she patterns rather full. Time constraints didn't allow for further "mapping" of the bores- both appearing to be the same. Will continue the measuring at our earliest convenience.

Anyone familiar with the boring techniques/tricks exersized by the barrel dept. when making up these Long Range guns? Was this the innovative dimensioning alluded to in their advertising that made their guns reach out further and shoot "harder" than the competition's?
