Tom, The bulges don't sound good. As for Damascus or Twist Steel, according to Brophy's book they stopped using Twist Steel in the 0 Grade in 1899 and good Damascus after that until 1907 when they came out with London Steel, where you could then have it either way. I have read somewhere that you could still get Damascus barrels up until the late 20's or early 30's. John's book only mentions Damascus in a 10 ga. only, Ideal Grade.
