    Homer,
You misread the web site information; Specialty Grades were introduced by the gunworks in 1913 under Hunter Arms Company ownership, which company bankrupted in 1945; was subsequently purchased by Marlin Firearms and then operated as the LC Smith Gun Company until shut down by Marlin in 1950. These manufacturing periods are separated by collectors due to the fact that all Marlin era guns contain an "S" stamp in the frame serial number stamping denoting that unique period; and also because many collectors do no consider Marlin era guns the same quality as those produced under the Hunter Arms name. To see your full serial number; cock the gun, remove the forearm, and swing the barrels off the frame. The serial number will be stamped on the frame, along with the grade. An FW sn prefix will denote your gun was built on the Featherweight frame; an R prefix will denote your gun as being built on their Regular or standard frame size. Again, I hate it you were mislead on the original gun appraisal; but the truth is the truth and it's best you know.
