To open or not?

I recently acquired a very, very nice 16ga FW.
I shot it and it is approx F/F. I plan on using it some and that is far tighter than anything I would typically want to shoot.
At some point in its life, someone put an "old English" pad on it so it is not completely original - the pad being the only change.
I am debating on whether to open it to IC/MOD and have a good 'smith that could do it.
How bad would that hurt my value since it already has a pad. I can't imagine ever selling it but I don't want to destroy its value either.
I'd appreciate your opinions?
Thanks,
Jack
