Matt, is the fore end loose on the gun and ready to fall off. If not I wouldn't worry about how it looks. It is supposed to fit tight and not rattle on the gun. If it does rattle, take the metal from the wood and put it into a smooth jaw vise and gently close the vise on the "J" spring. Do it until it fits tightly on the gun. Protect the barrels where you would normally take the fore end off by taping the area and use a screwdriver or such to remove the fore end metal from the barrels as you are trying to fit it. The "J" spring has some hardness to it or else it would be bent and loose all the time.
