My great grandfather won a 1899 12 guage LC Smith shotgun at a Turkey Shoot in 1906. He received the gun and a silver trophy commemorating him as the winner. The shotgun has been passed down to me. I have a 1941 letter from Hunter Arms, saying that with the serial number on my shotgun, the manufacture date is 1899. However, when I plug the serial number into the the manufacture date generator on this website, it says that the gun was made in 1927. It has other markings of a pre-1900 era manufactured shotgun. Can anyone advise me on this?
