    Ken, are you talking about the roller release like in the picture or the push button (Curtis) on the end of the forend? If you are talking about the roller release, roll it towards the muzzle and with the other hand use a finger at the end of the forend and pry it off. It should be snug.
    JUST MAKE SURE THE GUN IS RE-COCKED BEFORE YOU TRY AND TAKE IT OFF. Or else you will put a lot of strain on the forend wood and you might crack it.
    If it is the push button, push it in and pull it off. The forend should still be snug because of the "J" spring that snaps into the barrel lug.
    In going by your serial number, it looks to be a 1913 20 ga. and it would have the Curtis Forend Release type (push button)
