    Jim, That's great to be able to have this gun and pass it on down. Maybe your son will pass it on down and so forth.
    As far as having it reconditioned, that's up to you. It will cost probably more than the gun is worth in money, not memories. The gun is a Featherweight because of the serial number you gave, use a screwdriver that fits the two screws on the one side, take them out. Take the screw out on the other side and use the long screw from the other side and insert it into the hole it came out from the other side and pull the side lock plate off. Then you can tap the other side off and look inside and see if it looks good and you can look at the wood. Hopefully there won't be any rust or crude. Spray some WD 40 or Kroil Oil around the moving parts and let it sit for a while then wipe everything clean as you can get it. Put it back together again, and it should be good for another 30 years.
    I would stick to using low-pressure shells in it, nothing over 8,500 psi. These shells are easy to find, just type in low pressure in the search box.
    Also with the serial numbers you gave, you were one year off, 1924.
