Before you get too deep into the project, check the width of the barrels across the breech; and also check the contour of the barrel flats. Early regular frames are often wider across the breech face than later guns; and early guns usually have an almost straight edge on the barrel flats (actually tapered slightly), while later barrels with exhibit a noticeable contour at the juncture of the frame side radius.
