It can be done, if you know what you are doing, and new barrel dimensions are such that you don't need to ADD metal. As others have stated, action size (reg or FW and gauge) must match. I recently installed a "LongRange", circa 1927 Barrel on my Gr3, 1901 Gun. Worked out great.
