I was out of the band by that fourth album but I do know it was Lee Freeman who played Theremin on GMS.
Not sure how true it is, but it was said to be Mike Love's...The very same one he played on Good Vibrations!
We rehearsed that song last year for inclusion in a live show. The band has a disdain for the song - It's understandable being that it was so overtly commercial for the time. But, I'm with you, I think the SAC version is way better than Oliver's. Mark Weitz thinks otherwise...He likes the intro of Oliver's version.
Funny thing is we ended up with too many songs for the set and that was the first to go...i was the only guy in the band who voted to keep it in! We never did it again....oh well.
