Nice words of wisdom from Carl Wilson! He certainly spoke from experience with the Beach Boys at that point having racked up four number ones, 3 singles and 1 album.

P.S. Got the new SAC album last month. Love it!

: Cool Question and post Steve G...
:
: There were no jealousies.
:
: Both bands were gracious and only offered
: encouragement along with some congratulatory
: cautions...
:
: There was a comment from Carl Wilson that
: stayed with me....
:
: Something to the effect of; "Cherish
: this moment...it's a rare feat to have a #1
: record.... Most "hits" never reach
: the number one spot!"
:
: Besides, it increased our drawing power and
: fattened their pockets...we were on a fixed
: fee.
:
: As for it going to our heads....not really.
: We were in a whirl wind of activity and had
: no time to gloat...we weren't really sure
: what was happening around us.
:
: We were so blown away to be on tour with two
: of the greatest bands of all time that we
: never gave a thought to our own success. We
: were a few years younger than all of them so
: they were our role models...we looked up to
: them.

: I saw them when they played in White
: Plains,NY
: last month on May 15. This is the show to
: see!! Besides the usual ton of hits, they
: played a lot of "non-hit"
: songs.Incredible. Also, the new album is
: great.
:
: At this show they mentioned that the last
: time they played the venue (Westchester
: County Center) was 11/21/67 and mentioned
: both the Springfield and the SAC.
:
: So, George,here goes... It's well known to a
: lot of us that you guys played a lot of
: shows at the time with the Beach Boys and
: the Springfield. It turns out that this show
: that they referred to happened during THE
: WEEK that Incense and Peppermints was the
: number one single in the country, on the
: Billboard singles chart for the week ending
: 11/25/67.During that particular week at
: Number One,you guys were clearly outselling
: the BBs and the BS.
:
: My questions: Was there ever any jealousy or
: resentment from either that these "new
: kids" were bangin' the charts and they
: weren't or was it all good and friendly?
: Also, how was it then knowing you were
: number one? Do you think you guys handled
: the sudden fame okay or was it too much at
: once?Just wondering...
