I saw them when they played in White Plains,NY last month on May 15. This is the show to see!! Besides the usual ton of hits, they played a lot of "non-hit" songs.Incredible. Also, the new album is great.
At this show they mentioned that the last time they played the venue (Westchester County Center) was 11/21/67 and mentioned both the Springfield and the SAC.
So, George, here goes... It's well known to a lot of us that you guys played a lot of shows at the time with the Beach Boys and the Springfield. It turns out that this show that they referred to happened during THE WEEK that Incense and Peppermints was the number one single in the country, on the Billboard singles chart for the week ending 11/25/67.During that particular week at Number One,you guys were clearly outselling the BBs and the BS.
My questions: Was there ever any jealousy or resentment from either that these "new kids" were bangin' the charts and they weren't or was it all good and friendly? Also, how was it then knowing you were number one? Do you think you guys handled the sudden fame okay or was it too much at once?Just wondering...
